It is now summer - January 2018 - and Lily's are flowering and flourishing in the garden like never before! The tulips have long had their day along with other spring flowers, as well as early summer flowers and also the roses which are well over. My mini prairie garden is coming into it's own as summer perennials start to flower, rising up between the grasses. But dominant amongst these are the lily's, particularly the lily pictured above. I have no idea what it is called or what area of the lily family it comes from. All I know is that it is very tall and impressive, and it's the first time it has ever flowered like this with many multiple heads on a strong single stem.

Thankyou Jo for your kind comments. I don't know how this post on my blog found it's way everywhere, when earlier posts never have before. The mysteries of the digital world?

Hi Robyn, I think you will find your lovely yellow lily is one of the Aurelians. I traced them a few years ago when I wrote this piece: https://jury.co.nz/2014/01/10/plant-collector-aurelian-lilies/ Lilium henryi hybrids. They have massive bulbs. Mark raised a whole batch of them years ago and I finally found a home for them in the new summer garden where the patch beside the Verbena bonariensis and Stipa gigantea that came from you look very striking.

Thanks for the info on the lily Abbie. I checked out your link and it could well be an Aurelian hybrid. It came (in the green) from Hokonui Alpines in Southland a few years ago, so is quite special, but I have lost the label for it! And this is the first time it has flowered, as the poor thing has been inadvertantly trampled on in the past just as it was emerging through the ground!

So lovely Robyn! you always create a garden which makes every season look spectacular. The only lemon/yellow I have are my federation daisies and I am very pleased with them this year.
